Health & Fitness

Obviously contemplating a lengthy period of travel, it’s important to consider personal health and make any necessary appointments due. I’ll mention vaccinations in another section.

So, since the London Olympics in 2012 I have worked from home and ‘drove a desk’. Working from home has many benefits but sometimes I would not leave the house for days at a time, got groceries delivered and without realising I became a bit reclusive, which in turn lead to a little weight gain… It became most apparent when I was shopping for new clothes and did not fit into my ‘normal size’. Not wanting to waste money on expensive gym membership (£60-70 per month), I cancelled shopping deliveries, chose to leave the car at home and started going out for walks and bike rides to the shops, buying only what I can carry, doing more gardening and eating less and it has helped. I know from experience that while travelling I will loose weight too, so this adventure has other benefits…

I made an appointment with the optician and as it turns out my prescription has changed so I need new glasses and sunnies. My dive mask is actually a newer prescription than my existing glasses and I am taking it with me, but if I loose my glasses and spares I would look like a bit strange say, riding in a Tuk-tuk wearing a dive mask, but at least I would be able to see!

I also visited the dentist and hygienist for a check-up and thorough clean and am pleased to report all is healthy and well. Am 40 and have only ever had 2 fillings in my life, one without any injections and both in the last 5 years. Must be all the milk and the fluoride in the water I had as a child.
